Our Communities
Tamarind's community investment programmes allow them to support communities through funded initiatives and sponsorships that bring positive, sustainable benefits to communities near Tamarind operations. Tamarind is committed to developing long-term and meaningful relationships with the communities in which it operates. Tamarind works hard to be a good neighbour, sharing the concerns of the communities and working to create a better future for the local population as well as the environment. These are some of our current, primary sponsorships.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF TARANAKITamarind's sponsorship of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Taranaki has helped them fulfill their mission to guide at risk young people by promoting growth and development through the use of adults as mentors. Each year, some of Taranaki's most vulnerable children and young people aged between 6 and 18 years benefit from the support of a carefully screened and trained Big Brother or Big Sister mentor. The one-to-one relationship is built on trust and friendship to support a positive direction for the young person's life. Read more about the programme and our involvement with it here.

From Hardship To Hope Kids Health FundThe Taranaki Health Foundation enables the best possible healthcare in the Taranaki region. They fundraise on behalf of the community to deliver new technology and services over and above the government funding received. We are the primary sponsor for their 'From Hardship to Hope Kids Health Fund' which is an emergency fund developed to aid patients and families who are experiencing financial hardship due to acute medical journeys they face. There is a genuine need to support Taranaki families who find themselves under enormous pressure and stress because their family members are seriously ill. The fund is also used to support the safe-sleep pēpi pods project, and to fund special one-off projects and resources that benefit Taranaki children accessing health services offered by the DHB. A recent project was the renovation to the parenting room at Taranaki Base Hospital.

Taranaki Retreat 'GymCave'Taranaki Retreat opened in 2017 to provide a community sanctuary for people who need some time out when times are tough. They support people who are going through a traumatic time or are at risk of suicide. Guests stay at their rural lodge at no cost and the focus of the stay is on wellness of body, mind and spirit. We supported their project to add a building to the property that could allow for more space for activities. With the addition of an outdoor but covered space, Guests will be able to get creative without the worry of a paint spill inside the lodge and it also gives them a place to get active.
